{"id":256,"date":"2004-12-23T16:07:30","date_gmt":"2004-12-23T16:07:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/34.95.25.178\/maggie\/2004\/12\/23\/trifle_my_ass\/"},"modified":"2004-12-23T16:07:30","modified_gmt":"2004-12-23T16:07:30","slug":"trifle_my_ass","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.golding.ca\/maggie\/2004\/12\/23\/trifle_my_ass\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Trifle&#8221; my ass"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Xmas goodies produced to date:<br \/>\n&#8211; 2 dozen pecan puffs (melt-in-your-mouth balls of pecany goodness);<br \/>\n&#8211; several dozen raisin-filled cookies (even Dina likes &#8217;em);<br \/>\n&#8211; about 4 dozen <a href=\"http:\/\/www.golding.ca\/recipes\/archives\/cat_cookies_cakes_other_good_things.html#000340\">ginger dots<\/a>, all of which were rapidly consumed by my colleagues, some of whom had apparently not eaten in days;<br \/>\n&#8211; an army of gingerbread men (not necessarily an effective army, considering some of them look more like gingerbread thalidamide babies) and various other shapes with the rest of the dough;<br \/>\n&#8211; a vegetarian Christmas pudding;<br \/>\n&#8211; a trifle.<br \/>\nOk, now this last item. &#8220;Trifle?&#8221; Whose idea of a cruel misnomer is this, anyway? Eight perfectly good egg yolks later, and it&#8217;s bye-bye lumpy custard, hello Bird&#8217;s canned powder. Anyway, it&#8217;s done now, sitting in the fridge, looking trifly. I used <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nigella.com\/\">Nigella<\/a> Lawson&#8217;s <i>Domestic Goddess<\/i> recipe, slightly modified to accommodate the lack of brandy &#8211; so it&#8217;s a cherry trifle with amaretto.<br \/>\nNext up is the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.golding.ca\/recipes\/archives\/cat_side_dishes.html#000342\">cranberry gravy <\/a>&#8211; I love this recipe.
